White Hot Kiss (The Dark Elements #1)by Jennifer L. Armentrout

White Hot KissSynopsis:

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she’s anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she’s crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she’s not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn’t an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she’s the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne… it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

My thoughts:

I had this book for a while and never really got to it , but since the second book released recently I figured I give it a try and see how it is. So happy I did. It was a fast easy and very entertaining read.

Loved the world building, characters and the story. All was very well written and had a nice balance of action, humor and romance but also some heartbreak.

Overall I loved Layla but there where moments when she came over a little to whiny but those were far and few between. Zayne, hmm I’m bot sure yet , while I liked him he was not my favorite, maybe it was because it seemed like he is not as much in the book as Layla and Roth. Roth , I loved him as much as Layla and thought he balanced her out very nicely and is always honest to her ( as far as we know) . He is also pretty funny and quick thinking.

The overall story was great and had some pretty surprising twists. Some things I saw coming but some I did not and was pretty shocked.  But I must say I will never look at snake tattoos the same way.

The end was sweet and sad all at the same time and made me glad that the second book was already out and I can buy it right away.

I rate this book at 4 ½★ and can’t wait to see what the next book holds.

Some of my favorite quotes:

“People with the purest souls are capable of the greatest evils. No one is perfect, no matter what they are or what side they fight for.”

“At some point, Roth had gotten hold of my cell and replaced Zayne’s name with Stony and listed his own number under Sexy Beast. What a tool”

“I lost myself the moment I found you.”

“You almost got plowed by a cab. And if you want to get plowed, I will gladly volunteer my services. I promise you I’ll be a lot—”

“Don’t even finish that sentence.”

“It was just an offer.”

  1. I’m not familiar with this author. I’ve heard of her, but none of her books have ever jumped out at me. I love the idea of Gargoyles for heroes (or even heroines). I think it goes all the way back to when I used to watch the Disney cartoon. 🙂 I’ll have to see if I can fit this series into my list somewhere. Great review.

    1. Thank you 🙂
I read most of her book and I liked them . All of them have a somewhat unique thing to them and most of them have plenty of humor in them. I hope you get the time to check this one out, I really liked it and already started on the second one and like that even more so far.
