The One (The Selection #3) by Kiera Cass

18635016Synopsis:

The time has come for one winner to be crowned.

When she was chosen to compete in the Selection, America never dreamed she would find herself anywhere close to the crown—or to Prince Maxon’s heart. But as the end of the competition approaches, and the threats outside the palace walls grow more vicious, America realizes just how much she stands to lose—and how hard she’ll have to fight for the future she wants.

My thoughts:

After the last book I was a little worried about this book. But I’m happy to report that I liked this book much better than the second book and I’m glad I stuck with reading it. No matter how much I disliked America in the second book.

There is a lot happening in this book, with the selection, the rebels (north and south), families and friends, love and betrayal. This book also seems a lot darker in nature than the last two books, while we still get some humor; we also get a lot of heartbreak. And not just once, and it hits where it hurts the most. There is a lot of loss and we lose quite a few people but there is also some hope, hope of change.

While this book has a happy ending, it takes a lot of grief to get us to there.

America, was much better this book, now that she made up her mind she is sticking with it and fighting for what she wants. But it is not easy for her and a lot of things are against her. But she doesn’t give up. She still had her moments that nearly cost her everything and moments she was rather naïve and or careless, but for the most part she was okay and stood for what she believed in.

Maxon, I was still one of my favorites and that didn’t change. I just adored him so much. Though he also had his moments but who doesn’t. But he always was honest and stood by his word.

While I’m not a big fan of Aspen I didn’t dislike him that much this book. Though I thought he could have said certain things way earlier on the book or even the entire series.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and while it was sort of heartbreaking the end was also beautiful.

There is a fourth book out but it seems more like a spin off. I will read it, I just don’t know when.

Great book, great series even if I didn’t like the second one as much but the end was great with all it’s action and twist and turns.

I rate it at 4 ★

Some of my favorite quotes:

“The best people all have some kind of scar.”

“I’ll love you until my very last breath. Every beat of my heart is yours. I don’t want to die without you knowing that.”

***

“I was nearly attacked. All because I missed your smell.”

***

“And there we were, in the background of it all, holding on to one another. The Perfectionist, the Sweetheart, the Diva . . . and me.”
