The 5th Wave (The 5th Wave #1) by Rick Yancey

The 5th Wave

syns

After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one.

Now, it’s the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth’s last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker. Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie’s only hope for rescuing her brother–or even saving herself. But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up.

my though

Got this book to review and I was pretty excited since I saw many good things about it. So as soon I got a chance I jumped to it.

This is dystopian but in a whole new level. While most books in this genre have some kind of hope to it, this seems pretty hopeless.

It is a very dark book, full of terror and survival. It has many plot twist, although some things I saw coming.

We get multiple POVs and that was at times a little confusing it was great to follow, different “people” throughout this first book.

The entire book is pretty suspenseful and you never know who to trust and or what comes next. You also never really know who is who and WHAT, are they human are they aliens?

Overall it was an amazing thrill-ride on an emotional roller coaster and I’m so happy I got to read this book.

Be aware there is a cliffhanger and it will have you asking for more.

I rate this book at a strong 4 ★

 My favorite quotes:

“Some things you can never leave behind. They don’t belong to the past. They belong to you.”

***

“Cruelty isn’t a personality trait. Cruelty is a habit.”

***

“You know how sometimes you tell yourself that you have a choice, but really you don’t have a choice? Just because there are alternatives doesn’t mean they apply to you.”

***

“In case you’re an alien and you’re reading this: BITE ME.”

  1. I had very similar thoughts when I read it. I still haven’t read the second one yet, even though I bought it. I think I have to be in the right mood, because it’s so dark.
