Freedom comes at a cost…
Ella was genetically engineered to be the perfect pet—graceful, demure…and kept. In a daring move, she escaped her captivity and took refuge in Canada. But while she can think and act as she pleases, the life of a liberated pet is just as confining as the Congressman’s gilded cage. Her escape triggered a backlash, and now no one’s safe, least
of all the other pets. But she’s trapped, unable to get back
to Penn—the boy she loves—or help the girls who need her.
Back in the United States, pets are turning up dead. With help from a very unexpected source, Ella slips deep into the dangerous black market, posing as a tarnished pet available to buy or sell. If she’s lucky, she’ll be able to rescue Penn and expose the truth about the breeding program. If she fails, Ella will pay not only with her life, but the lives
of everyone she’s tried to save…
After reading and really enjoying the first book “Perfected” I was really excited to be offered the second book.
I was curious to see where it would go from there for Ella. It was not what I expected, I didn’t expect her to go back to the States after all she went through to make it to Canada. But after being separated from Penn at the border it was the only thing she could think of.
Much like the last book I hardly could put the book down. It was captivating interesting and disturbing all at once.
The book start one week after we see Ella last in the last book and she now is in a refugee camp in Canada but she want to go and get Penn. As she flees the camp, she runs into an old “frenemy”, Missy. Together, they make their journey back to the US but of course nothing is ever easy and even harder when you are in hiding.
I found Ella a bit naïve in the beginning but that was to be expected being a “pet” and all. But she does grow a lot through out this journey. She does have a few stupid momnets but overall she is growing and learning fast.
I really liked, Missy, I felt for her and really thought it was amazing at what length she went to protect Ella.
Penn was also great, also a bit surprising at times.
We also meet some new people along the way. As well meet others form the first book again.
Overall, this was another great book in the series and I can’t wait to get to the next book J
I rate it 4 ½ ★
