Some Girls Bite (Chicagoland Vampires #1) by Chloe Neill

Some Girls Bite

syns

They killed me. They healed me. They changed me.

Sure, the life of a graduate student wasn’t exactly glamorous, but I was doing fine until Chicago’s vampires announced their existence to the world. When a rogue vampire attacked me, I was lucky he only got a sip. Another bloodsucker scared him off and decided the best way to save my life was to make me the walking undead.

Now I’ve traded sweating over my thesis for learning to fit in at a Hyde Park mansion full of vamps loyal to Ethan “Lord o’ the Manor” Sullivan. Of course, as a tall, green-eyed,

four-hundred-year-old vampire, he has centuries’ worth of charm, but unfortunately he expects my gratitude—and servitude. Right…

But someone’s out to get me. Is it the rogue vampire who bit me? A vamp from a rival House? An angry mob bearing torches?

My initiation into Chicago’s nightlife may be the first skirmish in a war—and there will be blood…

my though

I really enjoyed this book and it was a great book to get me out of my reading slump.

We meet Merit, just as she awakens as a new vampire and she is not happy about it. The human world knows about vampires but only for a few months ( I think ), not that long.

But Merit wanted nothing to do with it, nevertheless become one. She got turned in order to get safe her life but not with her consent and that doesn’t sit well with her.

We find out that there is much more to it than she or anybody thought and it turns into a supernatural who done it kind of book.

I liked that Merit, didn’t just accept the fact that she is a vampire form the get-go, but had to learn to accept it, which she eventually did, sort of. I also like that we get to see her kind of mourn the loss of her human life.

Of course there a=is more than vampires out there, we have a whole bunch of groups, shifters, witches, nymphs and so on. What I did not care for so much was that her grandfather just happen to be the liaison for the human – sups interaction and of course new about them way before her. I just thought that was a little to convenient and it could have been anybody else, but oh well. It is not the worse either.

Loved the characters, they were all pretty likable and relatable to me and easy to follow. I loved Merit, she is strong, smart, sassy and funny. But she still has her vulnerable moments that make her so real.

Ethan, Im not sure yet what to think of him, he is kind of hard to read so far. But he reminded me a little bit of Trent from the Hollows series but I might be wrong.

Loved her roommate she is like the perfect balance to Merit. Catcher as well was a fun character to read, I think he is going to be a hoot to follow in the series , together with Mallory.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and it was just what I needed. I really looking forward to jump into the next book.

I rate it a strong 4 ★

My favorite quotes:

“Luc : It’s time for our annual review of Rules You Disrespectful Bastards Never Follow.”

***

“You have to call Darth Sullivan your ‘Liege’?”

I grinned. “Only if I expect him to answer.”

***

“I stepped back, pivoted on a heel, and swivelled my hip for a side kick. It probably seemed, to a casual observer, that I was warming up, taking a few well-aimed kicks at an inanimate object.

But in my mind, THWACK, I was kicking, THWACK, a certain Master vampire, THWACK, in the face.”

***

“Sullivan, just pick it up.”

“My way is more genteel.”

“Your way is more tight ass.”

“Your respect for me, Sentinel, is astounding.”

“I’d respect you more if you took a bite of that dog.”

“You don’t respect me any.”

“Like I said, I’d respect you more. More than none.”
