Scorched by Jennifer L. Armentrout

ScorchedSynopsis:

Most days, Andrea doesn’t know whether she wants to kiss Tanner or punch him in the gut. He is seriously hot, with legit bedroom eyes and that firefighter body of his, but he’s a major player, and they can’t get along for more than a handful of minutes. Until now.

Tanner knows he and Andrea have had an epic love/hate relationship for as long as he can remember, but he wants more love than hate from her. He wants her. Now. Tomorrow. But the more he gets to know her, the more it becomes obvious that Andrea has a problem. She’s teetering on the edge and every time he tries to catch her, she slips through his fingers.

Andrea’s life is spiraling out of control, and it doesn’t matter that Tanner wants to save her, because when everything falls apart and she’s speeding toward rock bottom, only she can save herself.

Sometimes life makes you work for that happily ever after…

My thoughts:

I needed a break from reading review copies and to read a for me trusted author. So I was happy to see that this book just came out. I have not read the first book about Sydney and Kyler but I know I will after this. I love most books by Jennifer L. Armentrout and only had one so far I didn’t care for so Im always pretty sure I will love her books, Whether they about Aliens, gods and demi gods, gargoyles or humans, JLA just has a talent to suck you right into her books. Easy to read and follow and most of all very enjoyable with plenty of snarky humor.
This book was no different while it was a bit , um let’s say darker, it still was funny an light but at the same time it was serious and talked about living with depression.
I absolutely loved the characters. Andrea has a problem, deep down she knows she does, but she is not ready to admit it to anyone or even herself. She loves to party and to drink but there is where her problem is, she doesn’t know when to stop. Alcohol makes her feel free, free of worries and doubt but she doesn’t see the how destructive it is until she hit rock bottom.
She really is a lovely character and I felt for her because she is truly beautiful and a great person who just needs help to see it.
That is where Tanner comes in, he does see that she needs help but he has no idea how much help she really needs. I love that he is there for her no matter what and gives her, her space when needed. He had some moments but there was no way of him knowing some of the things.
This book was not just a romance novel it was so much more, about Andrea battling, accepting and dealing with her depression. Her journey to a happy self and finding love along the way, when she never expected it.
This book was funny, yet heartbreaking but beautiful all wrapped up with some steamy hot times with Tanner.
Over all I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
I rate it at 4 ½★

    1. Thank you
It was kind of a hard book to review but a very book good book to read, at least for me

  1. sounds good! Just one question does she get professional help besides his help? I really think it’s something some authors forget that as much as your loved ones WANT to help, they don’t necessarily have the means. I had that problem in a relationship, I was having personal problems, ones that had NOTHING to do with my boyfriend at the time and he was, well, disappointed (?) that he wasn’t able to help. He expected to be able to, to be “enough” so to speak but he wasn’t and it’s not because there was something “wrong” with him. It was just too personal and he didn’t have the means to help. I went to therapy and worked those issues out at the end but that was AFTER me and him broke up.. a bit of a TMI here 🙂 but well, since then (~10 years ago) I’ve been more conscious about these things.
Oh, and I have a series by this author on my list. something with elements?

    1. To make it short yes she did get professinal help, I just didn’t want to write everything in the review or haven’t thought about it, it was hard book to review.
But I can say that everything is very authentic and realistic in the book therapy wise having worked in that kind of field before.

      1. Okay 🙂 good to know, I just wanted that tiny bit 🙂 I”ll read the other series I have by her and if I like it I”ll add this one as well 🙂

        1. If its the The Dark Elements series I hope you enjoy it:) I did, well the third and final book will come out in July 🙂 That is the series where she let the readers vote on who Layla will chose but its not revealed until of course they read the book:) It also is one of her YA series, She writes both YA and adult but MOST adult ones are under J. Lynn but she seems to be more and more just go by JLA. Regardless I love her writing style and love most of her books.
