Magic Slays (Kate Daniels #5) by Ilona Andrews

Magic SlaysSynopsis:

Kate Daniels narrates Atlanta detective agency start with best pal Andrea, half-beast rejected from the Order. Kate’s passionate Mate is Beast Lord Curran, so Keep politics intervene. She won’t kill children, so Aunt B assigns half-bouda bodyguards, spoiled Ascanio 15, Derek 19. First case is vanished inventor and Doomsday Device. Ward Julie runs from school, again.

My thoughts:

Another great book in the series. But this one had a different feel to it. For one, it was very dark and emotional; a lot of blood is shed and a lot of people die. It still had its funny and sweet moments but also many heartbreaking and tear jerking moments as well. We loss someone near and dear to the pack in this book and it was just all very sad. This book was an emotional roller coaster ride all the way through.

We also learn with all those “monsters” out there, the humans are the cruelest of all of them.

Kate seems to be fitting into the pack better, more or less. There are still a few, but mainly it seems to be going fine for her. She now had her own firm but that seems to be out starting slow for her. She recruits a few friends to work for/with her. I figured those would be her team.

In this book Kate learns something new about her family and everything that she knew about it has been changed. She meets some new people and allies along the way. She also is getting more and more powerful. Some very tragic things are happening and causing Kate to use all her power and some to do a ritual, but one that can come at a high price. But in order so safe someone close to her she of course will risk it all.

Curran is not as much in the book as I thought he would. He is gone part of the book but still there, if that makes any sense. You know he will be there for Kate no matter what. I really love how much he stands behind her and supports her no matter how stupid of an idea she has.

Andrea is also great and becoming stronger character, she is going through some stuff but she seems to be getting the hang of her life. I really like her character.

Derrek, I can’t wait what in store for him next, I really like seeing him grow.

Julie, that kid is too funny the way she always escapes from the school. Really hope we get to see more of her and maybe even her and Derrek 😉

I really enjoyed this book even with all the bad things happening , the final battle was just to awesome and I liked how everyone came together to destroy a common enemy . While it was awesome it also had its sad and heartbreaking pages. It was beautiful and sad all at the same time.

But not all is sad; we also have some pretty funny moments in this book as well.

Overall, I loved this book and rate it at 4 ½ ★, I would have given it another 5★ but the beginning seemed slower than some of the other books.

Some of my favorite quotes:

“Put your badass faces on and follow me.”

“Yes I can,” Curran snarled. “Listen: this is me telling you what you will not do.”

I raised the cookbook and tapped him on the nose. Bad cat.”

“Andrea raised her hand. “This is the hand that slapped Aunt B.”

“Maybe you should have it gold-plated.”

“Here, you can touch it, since you’re my best friend.”

“Fuck the pack. I gave them fifteen years of my life. I fought for them, bled for them, and the moment my back was turned, they attacked my wife. I owe them nothing.”
