Down in Atlanta, tempers – and temperatures – are about to flare…
As a mercenary who cleans up after magic gone wrong, Kate Daniels has seen her share of occupational hazards. Normally, waves of paranormal energy ebb and flow across Atlanta like a tide. But once every seven years, a flare comes, a time when magic runs rampant. Now Kate’s going to have to deal with problems on a much bigger scale: a divine one.
When Kate sets out to retrieve a set of stolen maps for the Pack, Atlanta’s paramilitary clan of shapeshifters, she quickly realizes much more at stake. During a flare, gods and goddesses can manifest – and battle for power. The stolen maps are only the opening gambit in an epic tug-of-war between two gods hoping for rebirth. And if Kate can’t stop the cataclysmic showdown, the city may not survive…
Wow, this book was even better than the first book and the first book was already great.
This book was another great mix of action, humor, and gore, some suspense, add to that the sexual tension between Kate and Curran it makes for a great fun read. And when I say fun , I also mean funny.
OMG the dialog between Kate and Curran is just too awesome and makes it so great. But not only that , the storyline and all the characters all play part of it.
In this book, Kates find a teenage girl that is looking for her mother who disappeared with other witches from her coven. While they are looking for her mother Kate takes Julie in and looks after her. But of course things don’t go as planned and things happen. I really like Julie and where the story of her character is going.
We have Derrek her as she calls him her” teenage wolf sidekick “I really like him and his story as well and thing he makes a great addition to the overall series. I can’t wait to find out more about him. He really seems to become a good friend to Kate.
I also liked Bran, and his part was just heartbreaking.
Of course it goes without saying, that I love Curran. He is smart, funny, loyal to his people, sexy and deadly. I really love when we get Curran and Kate. Those two are just fire and ice, but they work well together and they are too freaking funny.
I mentioned after the first book that I believe that there is more to Kate than she lets us know and I think I’m right. We learn more about her and her family. I can’t wait to see what it actually that she is or what she can really do if she wanted to.
Overall, this book was fantastic and I already started on the third book. Yes, I’m hooked and I can’t believe I have not read this series soon. I might even have to push some other planned reads for this month back so I can catch up on this series first. I rate this book a full 5 ★
Some of my favorite quotes:
“I don’t want it to be attributed to a loss of control on my part. When I throw you out of the window, I want there to be no doubt the act was deliberate.”
“No pain, no gain! That pain is just weakness leaving your body! Come on! Push! Push! Make that weight your bitch!”
“I think I’ve been rather reasonable about this whole situation.”
“How do you figure?”
“They are still breathing, aren’t they?”
He inhaled my scent, bent close, about to kiss me…
I just stood there like an idiot.
Curran smirked and whispered in my ear instead. “Psych.”
