No matter how much the paranormal politics of Atlanta change, one thing always remains the same: if there’s trouble, Kate Daniels will be in the middle of it…
As the mate of the Beast Lord, Curran, former mercenary Kate Daniels has more responsibilities than it seems possible to juggle. Not only is she still struggling to keep her investigative business afloat, she must now deal with the affairs of the pack, including preparing her people for attack from Roland, a cruel ancient being with god-like powers. Since Kate’s connection to Roland has come out into the open, no one is safe—especially those closest to Kate.
As Roland’s long shadow looms ever nearer, Kate is called to attend the Conclave, a gathering of the leaders from the various supernatural factions in Atlanta. When one of the Masters of the Dead is found murdered there, apparently at the hands of a shapeshifter, Kate is given only twenty-four hours to hunt down the killer. And this time, if she fails, she’ll find herself embroiled in a war which could destroy everything she holds dear…
Oh man if I wouldn’t have known better, I would have thought this was the last book. But they tell you right in the beginning that it is not and it is a relief.
This book was another roller coaster of emotion and fear of losing great people. I was really nervous starting this book, because I wasn’t sure who would survive and who we would lose.
Well the time has come and Roland is coming to town. But Kate is nowhere ready to fight him and to make it worse the People are about to start a war with the pack. Kate must pull in all her resources to prevent this war, of course some of the clans still can’t wait for something to happen so that they can remove Kate as the Consort, which makes it even harder for her to plan. On top of that, Curran had to leave the Keep to take care of something else and is MIA for quite a while.
Kate is stronger than ever in this book, she embraces her magic, we see he use it like she has never before. She also deals a lot with the clans and is getting really good at it. Too bad some clans won’t really accept her. But that doesn’t stop her protecting the entire pack with everything she can.
While Curran Is MIA some part of the book, he comes back when it matters the most. He stands behind Kate and fights with her no matter what. I really love the relationship those two have.
We met Desandra in the last book, and she is a big part of this one as well. I really love her; she is a great addition to the pack and the story. The same goes for Christopher as well. We still don’t know a lot of him but I have a feeling that there is a lot more to discover from him.
Derrek and Ascanio is always great and what a duo, can’t wait to see more of either of them. Though Derrek more so, he has grown into such a strong and wonderful character.
Of course Hugh is back!!! Man I really have a hate-love relationship with him. I hate that I love him. He is a bastard and needs to die but at the same time I really don’t want him to die. I’m curious to see what will happen to him at the end. I don’t think it I will like either way ,if he dies I be sad and if he lives being the bastard that he is I won’t like it either . Like I said, hate love relationship with him.
I don’t want to say to much, not to spoil it for those who haven’t read it yet but the whole Roland thing I was not too sure about it but I saw why it had to be that way and I somewhat saw it coming.
Overall I thought it was a great book , again filled with action , suspense, gore and no matter who dark the story is we always still get some great humor.
The end WOW. I thought after the last book everything would change but after reading this ending WOW . Everything we know about the pack and the series will change for sure now. I don’t think it will be the same but Im very curious to see how it all will play out. Also I thought the it had a somewhat peaceful ending to the book. This was so far one of my favorite in the series.
I rate it at 5 ★
Some of my favorite quotes:
“Quick, Derek, it’s your chance to shine,” Ascanio said.
Derek gave him a withering look.
“Desandra is a mother, Robert is married, Kate’s affianced, and I’m an old soul. You’re the closest thing to a virgin we’ve got. Get on with growing some flowing locks.”
“What the hell is this?” Desandra asked
“This is Cuddles. She’s a mammoth donkey.”
Derek grinned, leaning on the fence. “Do you have any self-respect left?”
“Do you know what most people have from their grandmother? A tea set. Or a quilt.” Curran smiled. “If your family had a quilt, it would be made out of chimera skin and stuffed with feathers from dead angels.”
“Any activity?” Robert asked.
“Not in the lasssht ten minutesh. Before that, very exshiting. I shaw Wolf Beta run by. There were vampiresh chassing her. She was yelling, ‘Bill me, bloodshuckers!”
