Holding on to regret is poison and I take mine straight up. Fast cars and even faster women—they’re my drug of choice. Until I barely survive a crash that destroys my career. Now I’m staring my past in the face and she’s even more beautiful than when I walked away.
I’m wildly clutching at what’s left of my shattered life after a failed marriage when he shows up at my rehab facility. I didn’t think my life could get any worse. Now the one man who has the power to destroy me completely is asking me to heal his broken body.

Some things need to stay broken.

“That wasn’t sex, that was annihilation by cock. I’m dead. Ruined forever.” She turns her face toward me, a lazy smile curving her cheek that is still pressed against the seat.
“Damn straight, baby. I’ll annihilate your pussy any time you want.” I smirk as I lean back against the door and pull her by the hip to follow. She does it languidly, her body moving fluidly out of her contorted position to lean against my chest. Her hair wafts around my neck as she settles in, drawing my good arm around her waist and gently brushing the fingers of my right hand. A guy could get used to this.
But I can’t. She’s not mine to have and she’ll hate herself in the morning for acting on her revenge impulses.
Isla sighs softly and I know this is it. “So,” she begins, pulling her dress down over her hips as well as she can in her position.
I press my finger to her mouth to stop her before she can go on. I don’t want to hear whatever excuse she wants to make now that the scent of sex and alcohol are fading. “Come on, I’ll walk you back to the bar.”
Her entire body goes rigid as she sits up straight and scoots out from between my legs. “You don’t have to.”
Fuck! This is exactly what I wanted to avoid. “I know I don’t have to, I’m just gonna make sure you make it back okay. This was fun.” I pull her back against my chest and run my lips along her smooth shoulder, kissing her neck. “You should let me know if you ever have more revenge you want to make.”
Isla snorts, a welcome relief to the imposing tension. “This was really dumb, wasn’t it?”
I chuckle and nuzzle her shoulder. “Maybe not the smartest thing a smart girl like you could do, but I’m not knocking your style. It brought us together and, well, this is the best night I’ve had in forever, so I’ll take what I can get.” I cringe as the words leave my mouth. Jesus, not smooth at all. Might as well have said you were a complete loser.
“Alright, walk with me.” She sits up with a sigh, then turns to me. “Thank you. For, you know…” she gestures to my unbuttoned pants, not finishing her thought. Then, thankfully, she buttons them up. Something I wouldn’t have been able to do on my own.
I walk her back to the bar in silence, staying at the entrance and letting her go in to her friend. I once again let her go without getting her number, keeping my fucking mouth shut instead of insisting I see her again. That’s what you do with something that can never be yours. You let it go and hope like hell you’ll get another chance with it, praying that your second chance wasn’t your last.
