Golden Son (Red Rising Trilogy #2) by Pierce Brown

Golden SonSynopsis:

With shades of The Hunger Games, Ender’s Game, and Game of Thrones, debut author Pierce Brown’s genre-defying epic Red Rising hit the ground running and wasted no time becoming a sensation. Golden Son continues the stunning saga of Darrow, a rebel forged by tragedy, battling to lead his oppressed people to freedom from the overlords of a brutal elitist future built on lies. Now fully embedded among the Gold ruling class, Darrow continues his work to bring down Society from within. A life-or-death tale of vengeance with an unforgettable hero at its heart, Golden Son guarantees Pierce Brown’s continuing status as one of fiction’s most exciting new voices.

My thoughts:

When I saw this title come up at Netgalley I wasted no time to request it, after that I checked every hour to see if I got approved and when it finally came through I had my happy dance.

This book starts up a while after the events of the first book Red Rising, it seemed a little slow in the beginning but that might have had some to do with that the book is somewhat different from the first one.

It has less battle and war and more strategic and political. But very entertaining and it had some major twists that blew me away.

Darrow grows a lot in this book but he also struggles a lot with himself about who he really is and what he has to do in order to help his people.

I love the Mustang and the relationship she has with Darrow.

Servo, is just as great as he was in Red Rising, I really enjoy his character.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book with all its twists and turns, surprises, action and suspense. As well all the character new and old and the world building. I found his writing style very good but yet a little different from the first book.

The ending about killed me and I cannot wait to get my hand on the third and final book to see how it all turns out for everyone in the end.

I rate this book at 4 ½ ★

  1. Great review ! I struggled reading this one. It was slow for me too in the beginning and it did pick up but I had trouble holding on to the story. There where so many twists and turns I lost my interest. The last 20 % was wild and that ending ! Hair pulling cliffhanger plus. I don’t know how to write a review for the way I felt it was up down and meh.

  2. Thank you! Oddly enough I had trouble writing both reviews, Red Rising and Golden Son, even though I loved both books. I agree it had moments that seemed way to long but in the end I think it worked out great 🙂
