Before FBI Special Agent Alex Bailey and his new partner Katherine Mitchel are assigned their first case, Katherine uncovers damning evidence against a major crime ring known as The Syndicate. They control the police, Congress, even the FBI, and they’ll stop at nothing to protect their interests. In what becomes the most dangerous investigation of his career, Alex must ask himself a simple question: How far is he willing to go to stop The Syndicate and keep Katherine safe?
Hello Mary. Thank you for taking the time to stop in and chat with us, it is lovely to have you.
What is your writing Kryptonite?
My kids make writing difficult. I am thankful that I am able to write when they are in school and when they go to bed at night. This does mean I don’t have a lot of down time, but when the writing’s going well, it’s worth it! Managing the admin work and marketing for my books also sometimes suck up my writing mo-jo.
How did publishing your first book change your process of writing?
Oh so much! I did everything wrong the first time. I didn’t outline, bad cover, bad editing, and rushed publication. It’s almost a “write” of passage most authors to go through when they are first starting off. Two years later, I feel as though I am finally settling into my skin and writing and producing using industry standards.
Have you ever gotten writer’s block? And what do you do to get rid of it?
No, I have never gotten writer’s block, but I have gotten reader’s block. Before I became a writer I would read upwards of fifty books a year. I simply don’t have the time to do that anymore. So I sometimes go through periods of time when I don’t read at all. I found that if I read outside my preferred genre that I can jump start my reading muscle.
How do you select the names of your characters?
I go to baby names sites and look through names there. I also sometimes use interesting first and last names of people I meet.
How long on average does it take you to write a book?
My first novel took 18 years to write. The second book took sixty days. It really depends on my schedule and what is going on in my life. When I am solely working on one project it generally takes me two months of writing to get a novel written.
This was fun again thank you so much for taking the time to chat.
