Please tell us a little about yourself, and answer as many or as few of the questions you’d like.
I love superhero movies, mystery shows, and BBC literature dramas. Give me a book or my Kindle and I will be content for hours. Since I was a child, I have loved books. In grade school, I binge read all of the original Nancy Drew mysteries in one summer and every book in my local library’s fantasy section the next. During high school, I read my way through the adult science fiction section of a different library. With my first paycheck from my first job, I tracked down all of my favorite authors’ books and started buying my own copies of them all. When I married my husband, our joint book collections combined accounted for over half of our household. Now as a married mother of three children, my house is full of a wide spectrum of books for all ages. Knowing all of this, I suspect it is much more understandable that I like to share my daydreams in book form for others to enjoy. I have to give back a small part of the joy I have received thanks to the written word.
When did you start writing, and was there a specific event or person who influenced you to become an author?
I started writing when I was a teen, but I didn’t take it seriously until I was in college. Even then, it wasn’t a career possibility in my mind. I was pursuing my degree in accounting at the time. It wasn’t until I graduated that I realized I would never be completely happy in a world of only numbers. So, I began researching publishing options for my many stories and the rest followed naturally.
How many books do you have out, and do you have a favorite?
With this release, I have 4 novels, 2 novellas, 3 short stories, and 1 anthology available for readers. Writing is like being a parent and choosing a favorite is difficult. Each is a favorite in a different way and I love them all.
How do you come up with character names?
I use a strange combination of baby name books, baby name websites, playing around with sounds, and a very inconsistent use of word origins. Dentin, the main character of the anthology, is an unusual character because he began with just a title, Earl of Dentin. He hates his first name, dislikes his middle name, and only seems amenable to being referred to by his title. He tried to get his wife to call him that too, but she refused.
Rachel Rossano specializes in clean romantic fiction set in historical-feeling fantasy worlds. She also dabbles in straightforward historical romance and not-so-strict speculative fiction.
A happily married mother of three small children, she divides her time between mothering, teaching, and writing. She endeavors to enchant, thrill, entertain, and amuse through her work. A constant student, she seeks to improve her skills and loves to hear from readers.
